RX Rubber Paving
‍
in Greater Victoria

Give tired concrete a completely new surface without necessarily tearing it out first. RX Rubber is PITLANE Surfaces’ poured-in-place rubber paving system, professionally installed across Greater Victoria using PowerPAVE materials from PowerCOAT Canada.

the finish

Rubber granules are mixed with a specialist polyurethane binder, poured over a suitable prepared surface and hand-finished into one seamless layer. The result is a flexible, comfortable surface that can transform driveways, patios, paths, steps and entrances while avoiding the disruption of full concrete replacement where the existing base is still sound.

Thinking About Resurfacing Instead of Replacing?

Send PITLANE Surfaces photos of the existing area or request a site assessment to see whether RX Rubber is suitable.

the system

What Is RX Rubber Paving?

RX Rubber is a poured rubber surfacing system designed to resurface suitable exterior concrete around homes and properties in Greater Victoria. Rather than installing individual pavers or applying a thin coating, rubber granules are mixed with a polyurethane binder and hand-trowelled into a continuous surface.

Because the material is poured into place, it can follow curves, steps, edges and awkward shapes without the cutting and joints associated with paving units. The finished surface has a fine texture, a little give underfoot and a clean, seamless appearance.

No full demolition

Resurface Your Concrete Instead of Starting Again

One of the biggest advantages of RX Rubber is the ability to work over suitable existing concrete. If the slab is stable but looks tired, stained, patched or worn, a poured rubber surface can give it a completely new appearance without automatically breaking out and replacing the entire area.

That can mean less demolition, less waste, less disruption around the property and a much simpler project. The existing substrate still matters — RX Rubber is a surface, not a structural repair — so PITLANE Surfaces assesses the concrete first and completes any necessary preparation before installation.

underfoot

A More Comfortable Surface for Everyday Use

Rubber has natural give, which makes RX Rubber noticeably softer underfoot than concrete, stone or resin bound aggregate. That can make a real difference on steps, entrances, patios and areas where people spend more time standing or walking.

i

The fine texture also helps provide grip in everyday use. No exterior surface is slip-proof, and conditions such as water, leaves, oil and footwear still matter, but RX Rubber can be a practical choice where comfort and footing are important.

Weather

Built for Changing Weather

A poured rubber surface remains flexible as temperatures change, which is one of the reasons it suits exterior areas around Greater Victoria. PowerCOAT describes PowerPAVE as expanding and contracting with temperature rather than behaving like a rigid surface.

The manufacturer also states that snow and ice do not bond strongly to the material, salt can be used, and snow shovels are less likely to leave scrape marks than they would on a rigid surface. PITLANE Surfaces will explain the care requirements that apply to your installation at handover.

SBR vs EPDM

SBR or EPDM — What Is the Difference?

For larger areas, blending SBR with EPDM can be a useful middle ground: more colour and visual interest than SBR alone, without the cost of a full EPDM surface. PITLANE Surfaces recommends the mix based on how visible the area is, how it will be used and the finish you want.

How PITLANE Surfaces Installs RX Rubber

The concrete
01Assess
We inspect the existing substrate, its condition, movement, drainage and intended use.
02Prepare
Repairs and preparation are completed first, with priming used where the specification requires it.
The coating
03Mix
The selected rubber granules are thoroughly combined with the appropriate polyurethane binder.
04Pour and finish
The material is poured into place and hand-trowelled to create a consistent, seamless surface.
05Cure and handover
The surface is allowed to cure before use, and PITLANE confirms when foot traffic and vehicles can safely return.
timing

How Long Before You Can Use the Surface?

Installation time depends on the size and complexity of the project, the condition of the existing concrete, the preparation required and the weather.

PowerCOAT indicates that foot traffic can typically return after around 24 hours and vehicle traffic after around three days. These are manufacturer guidelines rather than a promise for every project; return-to-use times can be confirmed for your specific installation before work begins.

care

Maintenance That Helps the Surface Last

RX Rubber is straightforward to look after day to day. Sweep or blow away leaves and debris, rinse the surface as needed and clean fuel, oil or other spills promptly using products suitable for rubber surfacing.

Over time, poured rubber may also need re-sealing. This is normal maintenance rather than a fault. A fresh binder coat helps re-bond the surface, revive colour and extend its service life. PITLANE Surfaces will explain the expected maintenance for your particular installation and whether re-sealing is recommended as the surface ages.

Common Questions About RX Rubber

Considering rubber paving in Greater Victoria? Here are answers to some of the questions homeowners ask most often. For advice specific to your property, contact PITLANE Surfaces for a site assessment.

Can RX Rubber go over an existing concrete driveway?+

Yes, where the concrete is sound and stable. That is one of the main advantages of the system. If the slab is moving, breaking up or holding water, PITLANE will explain what needs to be repaired before resurfacing is considered.

Is rubber paving slippery? +

RX Rubber has a textured surface that provides useful grip, but no surface is slip-proof. Water, leaves, oil and footwear all affect traction. If grip is especially important for steps, entrances or another area, tell PITLANE during the assessment.

Is RX Rubber softer than concrete? +

Yes. Rubber has more give than concrete, stone or resin bound aggregate, which makes it more comfortable underfoot and particularly useful for paths, patios, steps and entrances.

How long does RX Rubber last?+

Service life depends on the substrate, specification, traffic, weather exposure and maintenance. Periodic re-sealing can restore the binder and colour and help extend the life of the surface.

Does the colour fade? +

Coloured EPDM is manufactured for outdoor use and PowerCOAT describes it as UV-stable. A UV-stable binder can also be specified for coloured work. Like any exterior surface, appearance still depends on exposure and maintenance.

Can I combine colours? +

Yes. EPDM colours can be blended to create a more natural finish, or used in separate areas for borders, zones and design details.

Can RX Rubber be used on steps and patios? +

Yes, provided the existing substrate and project conditions are suitable. The softer feel and textured finish are two reasons RX Rubber is commonly considered for steps, paths, patios and entrances.

Is RX Rubber permeable? +

RX Rubber is not designed as a permeable surface on its own. If drainage or permeability is important to your project, PITLANE will assess the existing construction and recommend the appropriate system. RX Bound may be more suitable where a properly designed permeable build-up is required.

Do you install RX Rubber outside Greater Victoria? +

Greater Victoria is PITLANE Surfaces’ primary service area. Projects elsewhere on Vancouver Island or in the Lower Mainland can be discussed depending on location and availability.

Give Your Existing Surface a New Life

If your driveway, patio, path or steps look tired but the underlying concrete is still sound, you may not need to start again. PITLANE Surfaces can inspect the existing area, explain whether resurfacing is suitable and recommend the right rubber specification for how the space is used.

Tell us what the area is used for, what surface is there now and where water currently goes. PITLANE Surfaces will then explain whether RX Rubber is suitable, what preparation is required and which colour options will work best with your Greater Victoria property.
